Commercial Auto Insurance provides coverage for
vehicles that are owned, leased, hired or borrowed by businesses.
Vehicles that may be included on a Commercial Auto policy are private
passenger autos, trucks, trailers, semi trailers and commercial vehicles
designed for use on public roads.
Coverage is provided for protection against legal liability arising
out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of any insured automobile.
The insuring agreement agrees to pay damages for bodily injury or
property damage for which the insured is legally responsible for,
because of an automobile accident. The insuring agreement also advises
that in addition to the payment of damages for which the insured
is legally liable, the insurer also agrees to defend the insured
for all legal defense costs.
For an outline of the coverages offered on Commercial
Automobile policies, please see the breakdown of the insurance coverages
below:
Uninsured Motorists Coverage – provides
coverage for Bodily Injury to an insured that is injured by an uninsured
motorist, a hit and run driver, or a driver whose insurer becomes
insolvent.
Underinsured Motorists Coverage – provides
an additional coverage to Uninsured Motorists Coverage, this will
provide coverage only if the other driver has liability coverage
at the time of the accident.
Collision (Physical Damage) – this is an
optional coverage for collisions in the event your vehicle is physically
damaged in an accident involving another vehicle or a stationary
object (building, guardrail, light pole).
Comprehensive Coverage – this is an optional coverage
for protection against loss or damage to a covered auto resulting
from a loss other than collision or upset (windshield damage from
a falling rock). This coverage also provides for supplemental payments
for transportation expenses in the event of a total theft of a covered
vehicle or non-owned vehicle. Coverage would begin 48 hours after
the theft.
Medical Payments Coverage – the Insuring agreement
states that the Insurer will pay all reasonable and necessary medical
and funeral expenses incurred by an insured because of a bodily
injury caused by an accident, without regard to fault.
Hired Auto – Coverage is provided only for autos
leased, hired, rented, or borrowed for use in the Insured’s
business.
Owned Auto – Coverage is provided for all autos owned
by the insured.
Non-Owned Auto – Coverage is provided only for autos
not owned, leased hired, or borrowed by the insured. Coverage includes
autos owned by the insured’s employees or members of their
households, but only while used in the named insured’s business
or personal affairs.
Rental Reimbursement – This is a coverage extension
which will pay for the cost of renting a substitute auto for replacement
of any covered auto that has suffered a covered loss. There are
daily and maximum limits which apply to this extension.
Towing and Labor – This is an extension f coverage
which will pay for towing and labor costs each time a covered vehicle
is disabled, up to a stated amount.
Personal Injury Protection – This coverage adds no-fault
benefits. No-fault means that in the event of an accident each party
will collect from his or her own insurer, regardless of fault. This
coverage applies only to Bodily Injury.
